Methodology: all data in this report was extracted and analysed using Prism, Techmagnate’s in-house AI visibility and citation tracking tool, which monitors brand citations across ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Mode. The findings are specific to personal loan queries in India, and may vary for other categories based on their own tracked data.
Key Takeaways:-
Average weekly domain churn across the study was 39%, meaning close to 4 in 10 domains cited one week are replaced the next.
Churn wasn't even. ChatGPT churned 44.8% of its domains weekly, Google AI Mode churned only 31.8%, and Perplexity sat at 35%.
69.6% of domains were cited for four weeks or less. Only 15.1% held a spot in all eight weeks.
The 15.1% domains count to 330 consistently cited domains capturing 93% of all citations, while the remaining 1,861 domains split the rest.
NBFCs earned 53.4% of all citations, more than double what banks earned at 23.1%.
200 domains appeared across all three platforms and held 80.9% of total citations between them.
Most brands track whether they show up in AI answers. Few track whether they keep showing up. Over 8 weeks, we tracked how ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Mode cite domains for Personal Loan queries in India, pulling 83,633 citations from 2,191 domains. The goal was to see not just who gets cited, but who stays cited.
The answer: getting cited is common. Staying cited is rare, and it’s held by a small, consistent group of brands.

The platform citing the most domains also keeps them longest.
AI Mode drives 53.9% of all citations in this study and churns the least of the three platforms, which is why Google AI Mode optimization holds up longest once you earn a spot.
Perplexity sits in the middle on both counts, with a 35% weekly churn rate – steady enough that consistent domains can hold their position, but competitive enough that ranking on Perplexity takes a deliberate, ongoing approach rather than a one-time push.
ChatGPT drives the fewest citations and turns over its list the fastest, close to half its domains every week, which makes ranking on ChatGPT harder to hold onto than on either other platform.
The 39% Headline Hides a Much Steadier Core
That churn number makes the category look chaotic, but it’s misleading on its own. A small group of domains never leaves.

The Brands AI Actually Trusts
Every one of the top 20 domains by citation count was cited in all 8 weeks, without exception.
Below are 12 of the top 20 domains by citation count, all of which held a spot in every single week of the study:

Only one loan comparison site, Paisabazaar, and one telecom brand, Airtel, break into that list.
India’s largest publishers, news outlets and comparison sites are almost nowhere to be found.
This is a category won by lenders directly, not by the sites that write about them.
NBFCs Are Winning AI’s Trust, Not Banks

NBFCs earn more than double the citations banks do, despite banks typically carrying more institutional trust in traditional search and offline channels.
News sites, PR coverage and government pages together account for just 2.3% of all citations. When AI models decide who’s authoritative on lending questions, they’re siding with NBFCs, not banks. We’ve covered what this shift means for banks in a separate piece: AI Mode’s impact on SEO for banks and finance.

Just 200 of the 2,191 domains we tracked appear on ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Mode consistently, and between them they hold 67,652 citations.
This means cross-platform presence and week-over-week consistency point to the same small set of brands.
Single-platform presence, no matter how frequent, caps out under 3% of total citation share.
Conclusion: Consistency Beats a One-Time Win
Getting cited once means little – churn averaged 39% weekly, and most domains vanished within a month. The brands that mattered were the 15% cited every week, capturing 93% of all citations across ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Mode.
For BFSI brands, the goal isn’t a single AI mention – it’s building the consistent, cross-platform presence AI models keep coming back to.
Key Strategic Implications:
Treat AI citation as a retention game, not an acquisition game. With 39% weekly churn, a single mention is worthless if it doesn’t repeat. Brands should track week-over-week presence, not just whether they got cited at all – the metric that matters is consistency, not a one-time hit.
Prioritize Google AI Mode if you can only focus on one platform. AI Mode drives the most citations (53.9%) and churns the least (31.8%), making it the platform where Google AI Mode SEO optimization delivers the best ROI for sustained visibility work – versus ChatGPT, which churns almost half its domains weekly and demands constant refreshing just to stay in rotation.
Don’t rely on category reputation – earn it directly. NBFCs are earning 2x the citations of banks, despite banks carrying more traditional/offline trust. This means AI models are forming independent judgments about authority, likely from structured, fresh, and directly-sourced content – brands can’t assume offline brand equity carries over.
Go direct, not through publishers. Only Paisabazaar and Airtel broke into the top 20 dominated by lenders’ own domains. News, PR, and aggregator content barely register (under 3.5% combined). This suggests owned content and direct domain authority outperform third-party mentions for AI citation – a shift from traditional SEO’s reliance on backlinks/PR.
Multi-platform presence compounds disproportionately. Domains present on all three platforms hold 80.9% of citations despite being just 9.1% of tracked domains, while single-platform presence caps out under 3% share. This means cross-platform optimization isn’t additive – it’s the actual multiplier. A brand strong on only one platform is leaving most of the opportunity on the table.
