There is no set-and-forget in AI citations.

LLM retrieval architectures continuously cycle through information nodes. Ranking once guarantees nothing for subsequent prompts.

How this study was done

Empirical inquiry across three production LLMs using continuous weekly sampling. Read the structural disclosures to understand the criteria and calculation models.

01 //What we tracked

A fixed set of personal loan prompts, run every week for 8 consecutive weeks on ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Mode. Every source URL cited in every response was logged: 83,633 citations across 2,191 unique domains.

02 //What counts as a citation

A citation is a source link the AI platform lists while building its answer. It is different from a brand mention in the answer text. This study measures citations only: who gets cited, and who stays cited.

03 //How churn is calculated

For each week-over-week transition, we compare the set of cited domains against the previous week. The share of domains that no longer appear is that week’s churn. The 39% headline is the average across all 7 transitions and all 3 platforms.

04 //Where the data comes from

All data is proprietary, collected on Techmagnate’s own tracking infrastructure from publicly available AI platform responses. The results are reproducible by anyone running the same prompts over the same period.
