Having recently attended the Internet Retail Expo, we’ve suddenly got a lot of people asking us how to do SEO for eCommerce sites. I wanted to quickly put together a blog post which offered top SEO tips for eCommerce success in 2017, so I Googled ‘eCommerce SEO’. I read all 10 posts/articles that appeared in the search results and found some very useful eCommerce SEO tips; Here I have listed top 6 SEO eCommerce tips that you can never ignore to achieve success for your website in 2017- 2018.

1. Avoid Duplicate Content for Product Descriptions
It’s easy to use the product descriptions provided by the manufacturer, but you will simply end up resembling thin affiliate sites. It’s best if you can create unique content for each product. If that’s not practical, at least create unique and useful content on your category pages and consider using the NOINDEX tag on product pages you can’t write unique descriptions for.
2. User Generated Content (UGC) and Product Reviews
Encourage users to review products and leave feedback. It’s an easy way to get free content, make each product page unique and also keep it fresh. UGC will take your product pages to the top of the search results. Besides, 70% of online shoppers are looking for product reviews before they finally make their purchase.

3. Integrate a Blog to Promote Your Products
A great way to create fresh, unique content is to regularly post offers, discounts, tips, buying guides for the products you wish to promote. An interesting Blog is a great way of establishing thought leadership, building relationship with customers and internal back links to your product pages.
4. Logical Navigation with Clean URL Structure
In order to make it easy for visitors to find products, e-Commerce sites offer the ability to sort and filter content on the basis of multiple parameters – price range, brand, color, size etc. leading to multiple versions of the same content. You could end up with lots of duplicate pages and you need to tell Google which ones to index in order to avoid passing link juice to unimportant pages. URL parameter-handling may be a little complicated but is very important for a clean URL structure and effective Search Engine Optimization.
5. Optimize for Long Tail Keywords
Long tail keywords are easier to rank for and also provides a better conversion rate more easily. Make sure you understand the search demand for your products and accordingly incorporate keywords in the Meta tags, H1 Heading Tag, Image Alt Attribute and content on your product pages. But make sure not to stuff keywords in the process.
6. Go Mobile
As more and more people use smart phones and tablets for discovery, research and social shopping activities, the sales via mobile devices is increasing. You need a mobile friendly website to handle this growing segment, and effective mobile SEO could help you get ahead on mobile searches and beat the e-commerce sites which dominate web searches.
