Increased Google Crawl Rate Not Related to Algorithm Updates, says Gary Illyes.

The rumors and speculation about the upcoming Google update due to constant spike in GoogleBot crawling have been put to rest for some time now. Recently, Gary Illyyes , Webmaster Trend Analyst at Google, Zurich replied to a tweet and clarified it by saying that “it is a myth.”

It should be noted here that site moves, along with HTTPs migrations will crawl your website faster but that that is mainly related to indexing. Indexing is not always an important parameter attached to algorithm updates.
So, the common theory that crawl rate increase is a precursor to Google algorithm update may not be true.
