Google’s Merchant Centre: Changes and Updates
April 28, 2016
For any retailer/ wholesaler who have tried setting up shopping feeds, it’s quite clear that it is a very complicated task. Product feed and formatting can prove to be incredibly tedious, let alone management. So, in another much appreciated move, Google has announced the release of Feed Rules which are aimed at making management of shopping feeds hassle free for retailers by letting them curate their own data for the feed.
Product manager for Google Shopping, Sven Herschel said, “You can export and submit your product data in your own format, and use different rules to transform it into product attributes and values that follow the Google Shopping feed specification, directly in Merchant Center,”
Using the Feed rules tab in the Merchant Centre, you can set rules to edit and/or modify column headers and values used for your product data to match those by Google. This means that you will be able to make the content much more concise and specific to the product description available on Google. It will allow you to add missing attributes automatically by setting rules for same or different set of values.
Once the feed has been adjusted accordingly and the data is finalized, you can use Feed Rules to customize product and shipping labels for products.
However, Herschel has also specified that this is just a testing phase and that users can give Google feedback using the “Send Feedback” tab on the Merchant Centre.
