Google: Page Speed May Not Impact Ranking Considerably

Replying to query asked by a webmaster, Garry Illyes took to Twitter and said “don’t worry about it too much, when it comes to page speed.” This single tweet is an answer to many doubts and queries about impact of page-speed on ranking. In fact, page-speed may be considered as a penalty rather than a ranking factor. If your website is terribly slow, Google may demote that site. Further, it should be kept in mind that the speed of your mobile page isn’t factored in here. It is the desktop page speed , if anything is considered at all. Here’s a snapshot of the site which is is pretty slow according to Google’s Page Speed tool:
All in all, a website that loads faster may result in better conversion rate, but as a ranking factor, one needs to go easy on it.
